A controversial decision by the Trump government could potentially impact our drug supply.
The administration says it plans to set upa system that will allow Americans to access lower priced prescription drugs from Canada.
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar says there will be oversight from the FDA, but Americans will be allowed to import medications safely and effectively from Canada.
Last week, 15 groups representing patients, hospitals, health professionals and pharamacists penned a letter to Ottawa warning Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor of increasing drug shortages in our country because of the Trump legislation.
The letter states " the Canadian medicine supply is not sufficient to support both Canadian and U.S. consumers."
A spokesperson for the minister responded saying the government opposes any intiatives that would adversely affect the supply or price of prescription drugs.
