Two local politicians demanding action on new policy they say is hurting business at the Fort Erie Race Track.
NDP Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates and Fort Erie Mayor Wayne Redekop held a news conference at Queen's Park this morning callin gon the province to help negotiate the end to a new stabling policy introduced by Woodbine Racetrack.
The policy says any horses stabled at Woodbine can only compete twice a season at other tracks.
Gates says “Woodbine is receiving millions from the government and using that money to try and eliminate their sole competition in the province—the Fort Erie Race Track”
Redekop noting “If the OLG is serious about fulfilling the Premier's plan to revitalize the horse racing industry in this province, we call upon it to level the playing field between Fort Erie and Woodbine - put the Fort Erie Race track into the Alliance, allocate a fair share of off-track betting revenues to Fort Erie and return the slots to Fort Erie immediately.”
