Niagara police discovered two firearms after they were alerted to two suspicious males in the area of Church and Niagara Streets late Wednesday afternoon.
The pair attempted to flee when approached by police.
During a foot pursuit by a member of the K9 unit and the police service dog Zoey, a shot was fired by the suspect. Two firearms were recovered by officers at the scene.
The two males were arrested.
Twenty four-year old Teneal Richards of St. Catharines and 26-year-old Mohamud Hassan of Etobicoke are facing numerous charges including carrying a concealed weapon, careless use of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Hassan and Richards are both currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Thursday December 27, 2018 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.
