Niagara's largest city getting shut out in the first wave of grocery stores that will be able to sell wine on their shelves.
A list of the 70 locations across the province that can start selling wine today only lists two stores in Niagara, both in Niagara Falls, but none in St. Catharines.
Food Basics on Montrose Road and Freshco on Kalar Road have both been given licenses to sell wine.
The Food Basics already has a license to sell beer, but we have learned the Freshco also started selling beer, wine and cider this morning.
A total of 300 grocery stores across the province will eventually receive licenses to sell wine by the year 2025.
