A heartwarming story overnight on the Burgoyne Bridge in St. Catharines.
After an alleged situation on the Burgoyne Bridge where someone was in distress, two Niagara women decided to keep watch all night.
Rachel and Christina set up on the Burgoyne Bridge at 8pm Monday night, planning to stay there until 8am this morning to keep watch in case someone experiencing a mental health crisis needed help.
The two girls are security guards at the St. Catharines hospital, and work with high risk people constantly.
In a public post on Facebook, Christina says they were shown a lot of love while camped out on the bridge.
People dropped off coffee and donuts, monetary donations, and some even stopped to share their mental health stories.
This comes after multiple suicide attempts, and two fatalities, have occurred on the bridge over the last few months.
In response to the suicides, the region has placed crisis hotline phone numbers on either end of the bridge.
St. Catharines City Council passed a motion last night to approach the region to try to get safety barriers installed.
