Niagara police have charged two Welland men in connection with a break and enter they say created a serious safety threat.
On Monday, police were called to a recycling business after getting information that two males were attempting to sell scrap metals that had been stolen from a local businees.
An investigation revealed the two supsects had broken into a fenced compound at ASW Steel on Centre Street in Welland.
They targetted an outbuilding and severely damaged a live power line that supplied electricty to the water treatment building on the property.
Police say that created a serious threat to the suspects and to the facility.
Production had to be shut down to prevent further damage and possible risk to employee safety.
Police say the two suspects "displayed a complete disregard for property, personal safety and public safety."
The costs are still being evaluated but are expected to be significant.
Facing numerous charges, including break, enter and theft, are 43-year-old Michael Riley Bisson and 38-year-old Jason Tiffin.
Tiffin was also wanted at the time of this incident for being unlawfully at large.
Both accused are in custody and are being held pending future court appearances.
