Ford Motor Company has been chosen as the target for Unifor contract negotiations.
Unifor National President Jerry Dias made the announcement this morning, saying workers at the Oakville plant are particularly vulnerable.
The union renegotiates a contract with one of the Detroit Three automakers every four years and uses that contract as a pattern for agreements with the other two, General Motors and Fiat Chrysler.
The union is pushing for firm commitments for new products in Canadian plants, especially electric vehicles.
Workers have thrown overwhelming support behind a potential strike if the union's bargaining team deems it necessary by the September 21st deadline.
