Unifor's bargaining teams has decided to extend a strike deadline as discussions continue with the Ford Motor Company.
Originally, the strike deadline was set for the stroke of midnight last night, but in a release Unifor National President Jerry Dias says, "Our master bargaining committee is willing to negotiate throughout the night to provide Ford with every opportunity to do right and reach a fair settlement to avoid a work stoppage at its Canadian plants."
Dias is scheduled to speak at a conference this morning at 11 a.m. to provide an update.
These discussions will serve as the template for new contracts with the Detroit Three automakers: Ford, Fiat Chrysler, and GM.
Yesterday BNN Bloomberg reported the federal government was willing to spend $500 million to convince Ford to build electric vehicles at its plant in Oakville.
