The President of Niagara's Elementary Catholic Teachers' Union says there is still a lot to work out less than a week before kids head back to school.
President of OECTA in Niagara, Marie Balanowski tells CKTB's Tom McConnell some teachers are frustrated that they still don't know exactly where and what they will be teaching next week.
She says the union went over the board's plans today, and they have made recommendations, including hiring more teachers.
She says she was told more teachers would be hired for the Catholic Board.
Balanowski says the board is shuffling teachers now to make virtual classes larger, and in-person classes smaller to accommodate more physical distancing.
She says this all could have been avoided if the Ford government just made elementary classes smaller instead to begin with.
Both the Catholic and DSBN board have announced they will be cutting class sizes to make children, parents and teachers feel safer.
She thinks plans should have been worked out earlier this month with Niagara Catholic's former Direction of Education John Crocco, instead of newly hired Dir. of Ed. Camillo Cipriano, who just started this week.
