The union representing workers at the soon to be closed General Electric plant in Peterborough is blasting the decision.
Unifor says GE has been an integral part of Peterborough for more than a century and the company is rewarding their loyalty by leaving the community and shifting the work to the UK, France, Brazil and Mexico.
More than 350 workers will be losing their jobs as the facility, which produces large engines for the oil and mining industries, stops manufacturing next year.
GE cites a drop in global demand for the company's goods, but says an engineering division of the plant will remain in operation.
Unifor says it will begin negotiating a closure agreement with GE in mid-September.
