Health-care advocates are applauding the drug coverage plan for young people in the Ontario government's new budget.
The $465 million pharmacare program would cover prescription medications to treat most acute and common chronic conditions for people 24 and under.
The plan will be most beneficial for youth who currently are not covered under private plans or the Ontario Drug Benefit program for social assistance recipients.
The Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario says it will improve health outcomes for children and youth and will result in lower health system costs over the long term.
