A happy ending for three minor hockey players in Cambridge after a red tape debacle that attracted attention across Canada.
Earlier this month, three 6 and 7 year old house league players were asked to hand in their jerseys by the Hespeler Minor Hockey Association after they were spotted participating in a nonsanctioned league program.
The parents of the players received an email from the association saying their children would “no longer be afforded the opportunity to associate with any Hockey Canada programming for the remainder of the 2018-19 season” and “can no longer be on the ice or join any team function for or with the HMHA.”
The parents said they had no idea that signing up their children for another program in the city would get them banned from playing with their team.
After going to the media, and making national news the parents just received word last night that the players will be allowed to join their teams again.
Mother Christina Casamento tells CKTB News a meeting was held last night, and an apology has been given to them.
She says they received a letter saying all three children will not only be allowed back with their teams in Hespeler, but that they can also continue their program at the nonsanctioned league program.
Casamento says their voices in support of their children won.
