A five hour standoff with a man in Crystal Beach has ended.
Niagara Regional Police Constable Phil Gavin saying the man, who had been locked inside a home with possible weapons surrendered to police at 12:30p.m.
He has been taken into custody and will Gavin says he will likely face weapons related charges.
No injuries are reported and it's not believed that a weapon was fired inside the home.
Gavin says the incident started at 7:20a.m. when officers were called to a home in the area of Ridge Road South and Brunswick Ave. at 7:20a.m for a report of a man in crisis.
He says when officers arrived on the scene they received credible information that there may be a firearm inside the home.
The officers at that point contained the home and asked for more resources.
Homes in the immediate area were evacuated.
Police then asked residents in the Ridge Road South, Brunswick Ave, Rebstock Road, and Helen Street area to shelter in place and avoid windows and doors.
The NRP's emergency task unit along with the canine unit were called to the scene.
Crisis negotiators then tried communicating with the man.
The Halton Region Police Rescue Unit was also called in to assist.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
