A five-year-old girl is dead after being struck by an SUV while being picked up by her father at a school in Toronto's north end yesterday afternoon.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m near St. Raphael Catholic School in the Keele and Wilson area.
Speaking to CP24 at the scene, Sgt. Duncan Miller says the young child was pinned between two vehicles.
He explains, “The victim was getting into a Mercedes Benz and the SUV was engaged in gear somehow and came on its own without a driver in it and pinned her between the two vehicles."
After the collision, the child was rushed to hospital via emergency run where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Miller says officers have confirmed the driver of the SUV was also picking up a student at the time of the incident.
The young girl’s father was with her at the time of the crash and went with her to hospital.
The principal of the school, Sarina Scarmozzino, told CP24 the crash took place off school property but did confirm the child was a student in senior kindergarten.
A spokesperson for the Toronto Catholic District School Board Emmy Milne says parents typically stop on this side street to pick up or drop off their children.
“It does tend to be a high traffic area during dismissal time,” she said.
The 5 year old haven fought off cancer at 3 was faced yet another tragic accident.
A go-fund-me page was made for her parents to seek support so they can find peace, without the financial stress.
