The French President is vowing to rebuild Notre Dame Cathedral as a fire consumes the popular tourist destination in Paris.
The fire broke out this afternoon toppling the iconic spire at the most visited monument.
Construction on the cathedral began in 1163.
The peak of the church was undergoing a $6.8 million renovation project.
French President Emmanuel Macron says the fire is taking part of everyone in France with it.
He extended "thoughts for all the Catholics and all the French'' and cancelled a televised speech for tonight as he rushed to the scene.
So far no injuries have been reported.
The Niagara Catholic District School Board says local students have been fortunate to attend services at Notre Dame on trips to France, including during the pilgrimage to Vimy Ridge in 2017.
The board says they are praying for the health and safety of the firefighters and that the wonderful gothic cathedral can be saved.
The iconic spire has collapsed, but fire officials now say they believe they will be able to save the rectangular towers.
