The Lincoln County Humane Society speaking out after a Beamsville cat rescue group launched a petition asking that the animal agency be removed from investigating any further animal cruelty cases in Niagara.
Beamsville 4 Paw Rescue is upsetĀ after the LCHS, an agent of the OSPCA, said it was not laying any charges after more than 100 live cats and about 150 dead felines were found on a Merrit Road property last month.
LCHS Executive Director Kevin Strooband says the case is not closed.
He explains they could not bring any charges because of lack of evidence, and when the rescue groups went on the property and took animals that may have been distressed or deceased they broke the chain of evidence the LCHS has to follow.
Strooband says they are now in discussion with the rescue groups to get information that would provide evidence or a charge.
He adds pictures of the cats sent to the LCHS do not show any cruelty.
But in the end Strooband says the whole thing started when people started dumping their unwanted felines on the property.
He urges pet owners to go to a humane society or contact a rescue if they no can no longer care for their animals.
