A four-hour police standoff in Pelham ended with the arrest of a 29-year-old man.
Niagara police were called to a home in the Pelham Street and Spruceside Crescent area for a disturbance report about 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.
When officers arrived, they encountered a male barricaded inside the home with weapons.
The Emergency Task Unit, Canine, Criminal Investigaitons Branch and Traffic Enforcement Unit along with uniform officers from across the region were called in to contain and resolve the incident.
Nearby residents were evacuated from their homes or sheltered in place as a precaution.
During the standoff a firearm was discharged at police.
After four hours of negotiations, the man was taken into custody without incident.
Michael Roosma of Pelham is facing numerous charges including pointing a firearm, uttering death threats and two counts of discharging a firearm.
He was taken into custody and will appear in court today for a bail hearing.
