An arrest has been made after a five car collision claimed the life of a Niagara Falls woman.
Tearfully, Brandy Sommer Wood, cousin of 22 year old Nicole Turcotte, told reporters the young woman and her boyfriend were just returning home from visiting a sick relative on January 27th when the collision happened.
OPP investigators believe a sixth car unexpectedly slowed, triggering a chain reaction crash that claimed Turcotte's life and seriously injured another person.
Wood remembers Turcotte as a woman just coming out of her shell.
"It only takes a minute of stupidity to lose a life. And for the other girl that's injured, she's got a long road ahead of her to be able to walk right and live a life. So there's no words that can convey - I really can't say - just besides that's it's just so tragic."
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says 32 year old Yasir Baig of Mississauga surrendered to police last night.
"He is facing four criminal charges right now: dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failure to stop at a collision causing death, and failure to stop at a collision causing bodily harm."
Baig will appear in court this afternoon for a bail hearing.
Schmidt says tips from the public played a key role in the arrest.

He also once again insists drivers need to do better. "The most important person in the vehicle is the driver. They need to keep control of their emotions, keep control of their vehicle, and drive in a safe and responsible manner. And if a collision does occur, you are required by law to stop."
