It looks like residents will be waiting longer than originally anticipated for the new Niagara Falls hospital.
Niagara Health executive vice-president Angela Zangari tells the St. Catharines Standard the hospital may not be open until 2026/2027.
Initially, residents were told to expect the new hospital to open in 2023.
In the interview with Allan Benner from with the paper, Zangari also said once the new hospital opens limited outpatient surgeries will be available at the Welland Hospital.
She says instead of an ER, the Welland hospital will provide 'emergency services' only, due to a lack of emergency type surgery.
