We are flirting with a new heat record in Niagara.
It reached 31.5 degrees at the St.Catharines airport this afternoon almost beating a previous record.
According to Environment Canada it reached 31.9 degrees back in 2007 in the region.
Environment Canada Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Geoff Coulson tells CKTB we will most likely set a new record later this afternoon.
Coulson says the length of this heat wave is impressive.
"We're breaking records in a number of locations, and really what's noteworthy about this event - not even so much breaking a record here and there for temperature - just the consistency, the number of days in a row that we're seeing this heat and humidity."
Coulson says we won't get a break until about mid week.
"The way things are going we're going to have this event continue into the day on Wednesday. A front is expected to go through late in the day on Wednesday which is expected to kick off some showers and thunderstorms. By the time we get to Thursday we'll see a cooler and less humid brand of air, back down to seasonal temperatures."
Coulson also says we could see the warmth return through the month of October as well.
