As we prepare to send kids back to school, in just a few years, thousands of teens will be heading to a new high school being built in west Niagara.
The District School Board of Niagara has put up a sign at the property on King Street at Durham Road in Beamsville.
The exact address will be 4670 Durham Road, and is near the border of Grimsby and Lincoln, down the road from to the YMCA.
Elizabeth Klassen, a DSBN Trustee for Grimsby Lincoln, says the design needs to be completed, approved by the ministry, then a tender will go out to construction companies.
They are hoping construction will get underway in the spring, and the school will open in September of 2022.
The new 'mega' school will replace high schools in Grimsby, Beamsville and Smithville.
When asked if officials are worried that marijuana grow facilities are close by on the Service Road, Klassen says not at all.
She says the smell of marijuana is a nuisance and not a public health issue.
