We are expecting an update this week on the renovations at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
The hospitals future has been top of mind again in the last month.
Back on October 23rd it was announced that the surgery and obstetrics departments would be removed from the hospital for over two years while renovations were done.
In response to that announcement the Chief Of Staff resigned the following day.
Earlier this month, the community held a public meeting where it was announced that Hamilton Health Sciences would be meeting with staff and start to look at ways to keep the departments running during those renovations.
The fight for the hospital dates all the way back to 1997 when the Conservative government at the time had planned to close the hospital.
Then in 2004, the Liberals told the community it was a "priority" to build a new facility.
Since then, construction was to begin in 2009, 2011, and 2013 before the project was ultimately cancelled.
The pending announcement from the provincial government is expected to include a cheque for the proposed renovations.
Sue Hotte, Co-Chair of the Niagara Health Coalition, "The devil is in the details obviously. At the advisory meeting there was no definite information coming out on how Hamilton Health Sciences would procede once they received the money for the renovations." She adds, "If they bring that money for the renovations then the stipulation has to be with it that none of the services are moved out of West Lincoln."
CKTB's Roundtable Roadtrip will be live at Teddy's in Grimsby tomorrow morning.
