Rotating strikes by Canada Post workers could come to an end early this week, as the Senate reviews the federal government's back-to-work legislation.
After spending hours Saturday discussing Bill C-89 and hearing witness testimony, senators adopted a motion to adjourn until Monday afternoon, giving them time to consider whether the legislation complies with the charter.
Critics say the bill infringes on postal workers' right to strike.
But supporters argue Canadian businesses rely on parcel delivery around the holidays, and a month of rotating strikes has created a backlog that Canada Post says may not be cleared until the new year.
