The Niagara Region is now under a rainfall warning but it's looking more and more like we are going to escape the freezing rain that was forecast for much of the week.
Environment Canada now saying a "soaker" is on tap for tomorrow and then very strong southwest winds Sunday.
Occasional light rain and drizzle expected for most of today will become heavier later tonight.
Total rainfall amounts of 50-to-80 mm are possible with much of it falling tomorrow.
The weather office says "while there remains a risk of brief freezing rain Saturday night, it is appearing increasingly likely sustained freezing rain will remain to the north of the region."
Strong southwest winds are also expected Sunday morning, especially along the Lake Erie shoreline where winds could gust to 90 km/h.
There is still considerable uncertainty with exact rainfall amounts along with the location of any freezing rain.
Temperatures in Niagara are currently forecast to stay above freezing.
Environment Canada will issue further warnings regarding wind as required as the event draws nearer.
Travel is expected to be impacted throughout much of Southern Ontario tomorrow and into Sunday.
Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority is watching the weather system closely.
The NPCA says local water levels are slightly elevated but remain well below criticial flood thresholds.
They say the current forecasted rainfall s not anticipated to exceed critical flood levels, however localized flooding typical of low-lying, flood prone areas is expected.
