The Vancouver Park board will decide today whether to approve a ban on bringing in new whales and dolphins to the Vancouver Aquarium.
Aquarium President John Nightingale argues the move would hinder marine mammal rescue efforts.
He says although less than a handful of whales, dolphins and porpoises are rescued every year, they deserve to be.
But Park board chair Michael Wiebe says the aquarium can still rescue whales and dolphins in the same way they already do with orcas, by treating them in their natural habitat.
