Police in Vancouver have put out a disturbingly realistic video to educate the public on what to do in the event of a mass shooting.
Although officials with the force admit events of that nature are rare in Canada, Vancouver police did point to an incident in 2014 where police confronted an active shooter at Science World.
The eight minute long dramatized video opens on what seems like a typical day at an office, before a man walks in and is asked to check his bag by security. The man then opens fire.
Throughout the educational piece, residents are encouraged to run, hide, and as a last resort, fight.
Chief Adam Palmer says this is merely an educational tool. "We're not trying to fear monger or anything like that, I just think putting our head in the sand, pretending that everything is going to be fine is also not an option. It's like preparing for earthquakes or anything else - it might not happen for 150 years, but you have to be prepared for it."
