An Ontario woman says it has been tough to look at the Catholic Church the same way after an ordeal involving her celiac daughter taking communion.
Her comments come shortly after the Vatican reaffirmed a ruling that gluten-free hosts, the bread or wafer that symbolizes the body of Christ, are invalid.
Andrea Adam says her daughter couldn't take part in her first communion because she had extreme reactions to gluten.
And she says the option to drink wine from a cup for communion was out of the question because she did not want her young daughter drinking alcohol.
Adam says priests have told her she was coming in between her daughter and God when she wouldn't go ahead with the communion.
