A major donation will help keep a volunteer marine rescue unit afloat.
The Honda Canada Foundation has given two powerful outboard engines to the Grimsby Auxillary Marine Rescue Unit, South Shore Search And Rescue.
Deputy Unit Leader for GAMRU Doug Mepham says this donation will help them get their Zodiac 630 inflatable rescue boat back in the water.
"Last year the vessel was damaged in the middle of a rescue mission and the hull required months of work to repair and the engines were damaged. We faced the difficult choice of either trying to repair the engines, attempt to buy new ones with a very thin budget, or in our case have the great fortunte to have the Honda Canada Foundation step up and provide two brand new 90 horsepower engines that suit us absolutely perfectly."
Mepham says GAMRU is the only dedicated marine search and rescue organization on the south shore of Lake Ontario from Hamilton to Port Weller.
"Last year we did 34 rescue mission in the whole of the 2016 boating season so far this year we are north of 18 and the season still has several months in it."
GAMRU is a member of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary.
