Wainfleet Fire and Emergency Services will be handing out more 150 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms through an ongoing partnership.
The fire department, Enbridge Gas, and the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council are joining together for 'Project Zero' in hopes of eliminating carbon monoxide deaths.
Through the project, more than 6,600 alarms will be given out in Ontario this year.
Carbon Monoxide is a potentially lethal colourless and odourless gas.
By law, carbon monoxide alarms are required in homes with a fuel-burning appliance or an attached garage.
"Prevention is a crucial line of defence and early detection can mean the difference between life and death for our friends and families," says Wainfleet Fire Chief Morgan Alcock. "Thanks to this visionary program, I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to get these important combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarms into the homes of those who need them in the Township."
