Wainfleet has elected a new mayor.
Kevin Gibson beat out five other candidates for the top spot.
Those candidates were Richard Dykstra, Ted Hessels, Afred Kiers, Ken Martinm and Andrew Watts.
Gibson had just over 1000 votes, where as Richard Dykstra in second place had 468.
Incumbent April Jeffs decided not to run for re-election, instead opting to run for the Conservative Party federally in next year's election.
Gibson is a newcomer to local politics, but he says he's looking forward to contributing to his community.
In an interview with 610CKTB, he says development is the big issue everyone is talking about in Wainfleet.
Gibson says residents are worried about a big influx of people, condos and townhouses.
Instead, he says, they want to see controlled growth.
Elected to Wainfleet council as Alderman are Donna Cridland, Terry Gilmore, John Maclellan, and Sherri Van Vliet.
Wainfleet's new mayor will also serve as the sole representative for the area on regional council.
