All that recycling from Niagara residents adds up to one big donation to the Walker Family Cancer Centre.
Emterra Environmental has presented Niagara Health Foundation with a cheque for $37,930 to support the centre.
When Emterra signed the contract to take over collecting recyclables for the region 8 years ago, they committed to a yearly program to improve the quality of life in Niagara.
The amount given each year is based on the total weight of recyclables and used batteries collected from Niagara residents.
Emterra also kicks in an extra dollar for every tonne of collectibles through the Make Your Contribution At the Curb program.
In all, Emterra has donated $311,900 to the Niagara Health Foundation.
The company has been facing considerable public pushback as collection delays continue to plague the region. Emterra has blamed the delays on staffing and equipment issues.
