A man wanted by police is facing charges after officers caught up to him while he grabbed a bite to eat.
Yesterday detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Street Crime Unit saw a wanted man driving a stolen car in Niagara Falls. The man was wanted on several arrest warrants for two counts of failing to appear in court, failing to comply with a probation order, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Police were also on the look out for the man after an incident on July 20. Police say they believe the man was driving a stolen car when he smashed into a marked cruiser, leading officers on a pursuit. The man was then wanted for additional charges of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop at an accident scene, driving while disqualified, and failing to comply with a recognizance order.
In an effort to avoid another pursuit, detectives conducted surveillance to determine the best time to make the arrest. Around 1:40 p.m. officers swooped in while the man grabbed a bite to eat at a fast food restaurant in the area of Stanley Avenue and Kitchener Street. Detectives blocked in the stolen car but the man still tried to make a break for it on foot. Officers caught up with the man in the Kitchener Street and Temperance Avenue area.
24 year old Ken Hunter of Niagara Falls is now facing more charges including driving while disqualified, possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, possession of Methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of Diacetylmorphine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000, possession of break and enter tools, possession of a prohibited weapon, and failing to comply with a recognizance order.
