The head of one of Canada's biggest unions has issued a warning to General Motors after meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Unifor president Jerry Dias says G-M's plans to close an auto assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario and four in the U-S is not assured.
He says they can't allow Canada's number one export industry to just leave, he says they are not buying the argument that nothing can be done.
Dias says this is the time for bold leadership.
Dias suggests the Canadian and U-S governments could band together to punish G-M if it insists on closing the plants at the end of next year. One form of punishment might be tariffs on G-M products.
