There's word Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will announce the next governor general today.
Sources tell The Canadian Press that 53-year-old astronaut Julie Payette of Montreal is among the top contenders for the post.
Payette speaks six languages, flew twice to the International Space Station and was the C-S-A's chief astronaut between 2000 and 2007.
Governor General David Johnston's term is set to expire in September after an extended seven-year stint.
