Niagara's Acting Medical Officer of Health is concerned as the region enters Stage 3 of Ontario's reopening plan.
Dr. Mustafa Hirji joined CKTB's Shelby Knox today saying Niagara is starting to go in the wrong direction when it comes to case numbers, just as more businesses are reopening, including gyms and movie theatres.
"While we have had a really good run, when things were looking positive for Niagara, we started over the last couple of weeks to see the warning signs and things are starting to pick up in terms of cases. It's starting to go in the wrong direction just as we go into Stage 3."
Stage 3 allows Niagara restaurants and bars to resume indoor service.
Hirji is encouraging residents not to let their guard down and to continue to practice physical distancing, hand washing and wearing a face covering when you can't distance.
Niagara reported three new cases today, consistent with yesterday's number.
There were two spikes in Niagara over the past week, with public health reporting ten new cases on Saturday and nine new cases mid-week.
There are 50 active cases in the region.
