Environment Canada is warning of winds up to 90 kmh today while the NPCA says flooding is possible along the Lake Erie shoreline.

Prepare for a day of battering winds in Niagara.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Niagara as meteorologists expect southwesterly gusts up to 90 km/h this afternoon and tomorrow morning.

The powerful winds could damage buildings, tear shingles off buildings, and toss loose objects into the street.

Drivers are being warned to be extra vigilant on the roadways.

Meanwhile people along the Lake Erie shoreline could see some flooding and shoreline erosion because of today's high winds.

Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority officials say the direction and speed of the wind will increase water levels in the Eastern Lake Erie Basin, which could result in wave heights of more than 1.5 metres.

This comes as Lake Erie water levels are already well above the historical average, increasing the chance of flooding.
