We are in for a quick and drastic return of winter this afternoon.
Niagara is under a Special Weather Statement as a cold air mass moves over the region, turning the rain we are getting into snow.
Environment Canada's Geoff Coulson tells CKTB that will happen between 1 and 3 p.m.
During that time period some areas may experience freezing rain.
The District School Board of Niagara says all secondary school late buses are cancelled this evening.
Regular elementary and secondary transportation is not affected.
Coulson says that snow will continue into the evening.
Most of the region will get around 5-centimetres, but areas in south Niagara could get close to 10cm.
Couslon says the drive home will be impacted by the snow, blowing snow, winds around 50km/hr and icy conditions.
The snowy system will move out of the region late tonight, and while no snow is in the weekend forecast it will be very cold.
The high over the weekend is around -10.
