The IceDogs finished off a perfect three for three weekend with a 3-2 home ice win Sunday over Windsor. Akil Thomas was in on all three markers with a goal and two assists.
After a scoreless first, where the Spitfires recorded 7 of the 13 shots, Sam Miletic broke the ice, not once but twice in the middle period. His 35th, 2:17 in, was banked off the skate of a Windsor defender with Thomas and Matt Philip picking up assists. Miletic's second of the game at 5:17 was an incredible deflection off a Thomas shot from near the right point. Capitalizing on a 5 on 3 advantage, a great three way passing play with Kirill Maksimov and Ben Jones would leave Thomas alone for his 22nd off the right post at 17:04. Second period shots favoured Billy Burke's team 19-5.
In the third, Windsor turned it up, scoring goals 4:51 in and with 5:09 left to narrow the gap but they would get no closer. Over 60 minutes, the shot clock read 35-26 Niagara. Colton Incze blocked 24 for the victory.
The win puts the IceDogs three points ahead of Oshawa for fourth in the Eastern Conference.
