A graduation ceremony for two of Niagara's newest crime fighters.
Police Service Dogs "Jax" and "Maverick" will join the Niagara Regional Police Service to help keep the region safe.
Handlers Constable Kris van Riel and Constable Kyle Wegelin were on hand to walk the podium with their K9 members.
The Niagara Regional Police Service Canine Unit has been a fully operational unit since 1987.
There are 7 general patrol dogs and one dog dedicated solely for the detection of explosives.
The graduating dogs are trained to detect and follow human scent, track fleeing suspects through all terrain, in light or in darkness, engaging fleeing and violent suspects, disengage after a suspect has surrendered or when ordered to do so by their handler, protect their respective handlers on cue or by command and in evidence detection.
