It was a tough fight as Welland Fire tackled a blaze at a church on Lincoln Street during the wind storm.
Thick smoke blanketed the area and flames were already sprouting from the roof of the Be In Christ Church when crews arrived.
Fire Chief Brian Kennedy praised his team for working under extreme conditions as the winds and snow whipped at the firefighters.
Pelham Fire was also called in to lend a hand as firefighters evacuated the building due to structural collapse and instead attacked the blaze from above with the aerial trucks.
No injuries have been reported. A damage estimate is not available at this time.
