A Welland grandfather has won the $1 million prize from the March 25th Lotto 6/49 draw.
Phillip Armbrust, a father of two, and grandfather to two found out through his daughters that there was a winner in Welland.
“They told me to go check my ticket right away. I told them about my routine of checking my tickets when I go in to the store to buy my next set of tickets. But one of my daughter’s kept saying, ‘Dad, go check your tickets. You might be a winner!’ Finally, I decided to listen to her.”
Phillip walked into the store and headed straight for the ticket checker. “The first ticket I scanned was the one. On the screen I saw the words, ‘Big Winner.’ I went back to my truck and drove home to share the news with my daughters. All I kept thinking was, ‘I can’t believe this is happening to me!’”
Phillip asked both his daughters to sit down. “They thought something was wrong at first but then I just blurted it out, ‘I won $1 million!’ They both started screaming, jumping up and down and hugging me and each other. It was a wonderful moment I will always remember.”
Plans are underway for Phillip’s big win.
“I want to put some money aside for my grandchildren. I have two and I would like to pay for their education. I also plan to do some renovations around the house and invest for myself and my girls. Winning the lottery means I can do what I want, when I want. I can now also take care of my daughters and grandkids financially. This win hasn’t quite sunk in yet but I’m definitely a happy man right now,” concluded Phillip.
The winning ticket was purchased at Petro Canada on Niagara Street in Welland.
