Members of a community group in Welland are calling for more to be done after spending weeks picking up improperly disposed of needles.
Pictures posted to the Welland Harm Reduction Society's page on Facebook show hundreds of needles picked up in a single day.
One member, Emma Stirner writes, "The City of Welland needs to wake up and start treating drug addiction as a social issue, instead of a criminal issue."
They say, 'if this doesn't show the need for a safe injection site in Welland, then I don't know what will.'
Three weeks ago, the Ford government announced 15 overdose prevention sites would be allowed to keep operating in the province.
The site run by Positive Living Niagara in St. Catharines was allowed to stay open.
