Robert Secord of Welland is celebrating after winning $100,000 with ENCORE.
He matched six of the seven winning numbers on his selection in the June 19th draw.
“I play DAILY GRAND regularly,” he said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto where he picked up his big cheque. “I always add ENCORE to my play.”
While Robert was at the store picking up a few items he decided to also play the lottery. “I placed my ticket on my car visor and forgot all about it. One sunny day, I pulled the visor down and the ticket fell to my lap. I decided to check it right away.”
At the variety store, Robert used the ticket checker to scan his ticket. “I saw the words, ‘Big Winner’ appear on the screen. I was in disbelief. At first I thought I won $1,000 but when I checked again I realized I won $100,000! I asked the retailer to check my ticket. She ran it through the terminal and all of a sudden it froze.”
Robert began shaking and laughing. “The retailer was so excited and called her husband, the owner of the store, to let him know. There were other people at the store and they began congratulating me. The following day, I returned to the store and took a picture with the owner.”
It all became real when the validation slip was printed. “I called my sister to tell her the news and she didn’t believe me. I had to show her the ticket to prove it. Next, I shared the good news with my son.”
Plans are underway for Robert’s windfall. “I will use a portion of the prize to pay off some bills and invest some of it. I would also like to buy a new vehicle. My kids will be receiving gifts as well and I may take a trip with my wife to Colombia. I am extremely happy and can’t wait to see what the future holds,” he concluded.
The winning ticket was purchased at Jerry’s Place on Southworth Street in Welland.
