Martin Proulx of Welland has won $1 million with LOTTO MAX MAXMILLIONS in the September 9, 2016 draw.
“My mother bought me this winning ticket as a gift for my 50th birthday,” shared Martin while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto where he picked up his winnings. “The ticket was inside a card that I opened a week after my birthday.”
Martin checked his ticket at the store. “I scanned it in the ticket checker and saw all the zeros. I didn’t want to make a scene so I drove back home. I called my wife and shared the good news about my win. She was stunned and didn’t believe me. Together we went to the store and validated it. I told the retailer I had a million dollar ticket. He laughed it off and scanned it. That is when the terminal froze.”
Plans are underway for Martin’s big win. “I lead a very simple life. I love my job and this win has given me the freedom to do whatever I want. I am probably going to buy a car for my wife and my parents. I will also finally cross the ocean on a family vacation. I don’t know if this win has totally sunk in yet. I haven’t really thought about anything else to do but I know that I will be enjoying my life to the fullest even more now."
The winning ticket was purchased at CNIB Walmart on Primeway Drive in Welland.
