Welland's mayor is resigning from the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority's board.
In a letter obtained by the newsroom this afternoon, Frank Campion says he believes the mandate of the board should expire at the end of the current term.
He also writes, "I believe there is an ethical and moral responsibility to step-down and urge all other Niagara Regional Councillors who are NPCA board members to resign as well."
This comes after NPCA chair Sandy Annunziata, who was defeated as a regional councillor during the municipal election, issued a statement accompanied by a lawyer's letter stating he would be presiding over meetings to select the new NPCA board.
The method outlined in the letter from Annunziata is not the same one used to select the current board; the letter cites an Order in Council from 1994.
Campion will be joining Niagara In the Morning with Tim Denis tomorrow at 8:20 a.m.
