A property owner in Welland has been fined $6,000 plus court costs and victim surcharge after an inspection revealed unsafe conditions at a residence.
Welland Fire originally responded to a complaint in early October at the property at 252 King Street.
Eighteen college students were living in seven bedrooms at the home.
Fire Prevention Officers also discovered there was only one working smoke alarm in the basement of the building in addition to numerous other Ontario Fire Code deficiencies.
The owner was convicted of failing to maintain a smoke alarm and failing to implement an approved fire safety plan in court today.
