Pet owners in Welland are being told to keep a close eye on their animals as numerous cases of a very serious, highly contagious virus are reported.
According to the Welland SPCA cases of Canine Parvovirus are being linked to the King Street and Ontario Road area.
The virus can be passed along through fecal matter and can be deadly, especially for puppies.
Signs to watch out for include vomiting, bloody diarrhoea, lethargy, and weight loss.
A vaccine is available, but there is no cure for the virus. An aggressive treatment is available to treat symptoms and give a dog a chance of survival - the survival rate is around 70% for adult dogs.
