Welland is set to get a new fire hall.
Fire Chief Brian Kennedy tells CKTB says it's been a long-time coming saying their current buildings are crumbling and it would have cost over 6 million dollars to fix.
Kennedy says they have outgrown the King Street Station, which is 70 years old.
The new building will include fire headquarters, a training centre, and will bring two volunteer groups to the centre of the city.
Kennedy says the new location will help with response times since the building will be located on the former Atlas Steel property at 400 East Main Street on eight
Welland city council has approved $6 million in this year's budget for the new building.
The total cost of the building will be $8 million.
Shovels are expected to be in the ground this fall, and it should be complete in 2021.
