A Grand Island, New York man is now the new President of Somalia.
Mohamed A. Mohamed, who came to the U-S two decades ago, was elected president in his homeland yesterday.
Many noting the irony of the story.
Somalia is one of the seven mainly Muslim countries whose citizens were banned by President Trump from entering the U-S.
Mohamed graduated from U-B and worked for the Department of Transport in Buffalo settling on Grand Island before returning to his native Somalia to campaign in the election.
Joel Giambra, a former Erie County Executive and close friend of Mohamed tells the Buffalo News, his election could have a "big impact on the fight against terrorism."
Giambra adding "this is an opportunity for President Trump to collaborate with a new world leader who happens to be from Grand Island."
