Statistics Canada has released their monthly update on employment across the country with numbers far worse than expected.
More than 24,000 jobs were unexpectedly lost nationally, making this the 2nd straight month of declines.
Meanwhile the situation in Niagara appears to be much more positive.
For a closer look at the regional stats, Interim CEO of the Niagara Workforce Planning Board Adam Durrant joined CKTB.
He says there are 3,200 more people working in July than we had in June, with the majority of that in full time employment.
Unemployment rate was unchanged, with a slight pickup in the employment rate.
However it's not all good news for Niagara; Durrant points to numbers from last July where 206,000 residents were employed.
That number has now dropped to 199,000 in July 2019.
Durrant adding that this statistical decline could be more indicative of people leaving the workforce as opposed to jobs leaving the region.
